                  About The Artist

Hello! I'm Emily Culler, and I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Art Education K-12 from Anderson University. I've been teaching the visual arts since 2023.

I love to share my passion for art in the classroom and challenge students to be brave in their art making. I firmly believe that art is a powerful medium—not just for creating visually pleasing pieces, but as a vital tool for students to communicate, process their identity, and explore emotions. I encourage each student to be willing to experiment and explore how art can impact their life, just as it has impacted mine. In my classroom, students learn that art is important and can be found in everything around us—it just takes a trained eye to notice it. They will see art opportunities and art inclusion through every lesson and project.

Outside of the classroom, I am an active teaching artist, constantly creating artwork and teaching directly from that experience. My personal practice is driven by a love for material experimentation, and I am always seeking out opportunities to try something new. I frequently work with diverse mediums, including:

  • Painting: Oil, Acrylics, and Watercolor

  • Drawing: Charcoal, Oil Pastels, and Graphite

  • Sculpture: Clay and Found Objects (like cardboard)

My artistic interests are incredibly broad; I enjoy creating works in the realism style, but I never stick to just one approach. I explore a multitude of styles and themes, including landscapes, detailed portraits of people, still life, and other objects. I'm just as comfortable creating a detailed cartoon drawing as I am a traditional painting or a fun holiday piece like a Christmas gnome. Since most of my artwork is deeply personal, I ensure I give myself the freedom to be vulnerable and take creative risks with every new piece. This continuous process of creation keeps my teaching grounded in real, active studio practice.
